The American University of Science was listed in the 2023 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, placing AUS within a global framework that evaluates universities according to their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The 2023 table identifies AUS in the overall ranking band of 1001+, with displayed performance across selected SDG categories.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings assess universities through the lens of global public contribution, rather than only through traditional measures of academic reputation or research scale. The rankings connect higher education institutions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by considering areas such as education, equality, sustainability, partnerships, and institutional responsibility.
For AUS, the recognition is significant because it connects the university’s academic mission with broader questions of social responsibility, educational access, and public contribution. The 2023 profile shows AUS associated with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. These areas reflect central themes in higher education: widening opportunity, strengthening learning, supporting inclusion, and building cooperation across institutions and communities.
The ranking also gives AUS an external point of reference for evaluating how its academic work relates to global development priorities. Rather than treating rankings as symbolic recognition alone, the Impact Rankings framework encourages universities to consider how teaching, institutional practice, outreach, and partnerships contribute to measurable public value.
AUS’s presence in the 2023 Impact Rankings supports the university’s continued effort to connect education with public purpose. The recognition should be understood as part of an ongoing commitment to evidence-based improvement, responsible academic development, and service to society.
The university will continue strengthening academic and institutional initiatives that align learning with global need. Through its participation in the THE Impact Rankings framework, AUS affirms the importance of higher education that prepares learners to think critically, act responsibly, and contribute to the shared challenges of a changing world.
