The American University of Science (AUS) participated in the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific 2023, held from November 7 to 9 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia. The summit gathered university leaders, faculty members, institutional partners, and higher education professionals to examine the future of universities across the Asia-Pacific region.

AUS’s participation reflected the university’s continued engagement with international higher education dialogue. At a time when institutions are responding to changes in work, technology, student mobility, and cross-border academic cooperation, the summit provided a platform for universities to exchange ideas and strengthen professional relationships.
The 2023 summit was organized around the theme “Creating the Right Outcomes: Universities and the Future of Work in the Asia Pacific.” Across sessions, presentations, institutional meetings, and networking opportunities, participants considered how universities can prepare graduates for changing professional environments while maintaining academic quality, institutional responsibility, and public relevance.
For AUS, the summit offered an opportunity to participate in regional conversations on academic development, innovation, international partnerships, and the evolving responsibilities of universities. The event also allowed AUS representatives to engage with peer institutions and education partners from across Asia Pacific, strengthening the university’s visibility within a broader academic and professional network.
AUS was represented through institutional participation and faculty engagement, including Mr. Michael Knight, Academic Dean of Linguistics at the American School of Linguistics at AUS. His presence reflected the university’s broader commitment to academic exchange across disciplines, including language, communication, international education, and cross-cultural understanding.

During the summit period, AUS also signed Memoranda of Understanding with several institutional partners, including INTI International University in Malaysia, Universitas Negeri Padang in Indonesia, and Jadara University in Jordan. These agreements established an initial basis for academic cooperation and created a foundation for future institutional dialogue.

AUS also engaged with additional international partners during the summit through agreement discussions and institutional meetings. These activities reflected the university’s interest in building academic relationships that can support future cooperation across teaching, research, program development, and international engagement.

The university’s presence at the summit was further supported by faculty participation in academic discussions on higher education trends, international partnerships, sustainability, responsibility, and university operations. Associate Professor Evgeny Ivanov, Mr. Robert Wenn, and Associate Professor Ali Kamali contributed to summit-related professional exchange, connecting AUS faculty expertise with wider conversations about the future of higher education in the region.
AUS’s participation in the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific 2023 forms part of the university’s broader commitment to global engagement, academic collaboration, and practice-oriented education. By joining international forums of this kind, AUS continues to build relationships that support institutional learning, professional exchange, and long-term academic development.
The summit strengthened AUS’s connection to regional and international higher education networks and helped prepare later stages of institutional collaboration, including the Memorandum of Agreement formalized between AUS and INTI in January 2024. AUS will continue pursuing academic partnerships that support students, faculty, and academic programs across international contexts.
