Associate Professor Ali Kamali represented The American University of Science (AUS) at the QS Higher Ed Summit: APAC 2023, held from November 7 to 9 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia. His presentation, titled “Social and Governmental Sustainability and Responsibility Within University Curriculum and Operations,” examined how universities can connect sustainability principles with academic programs and institutional practice.

The presentation formed part of AUS’s wider participation in the summit, which gathered university leaders, faculty members, institutional partners, and higher education professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region. The event provided a platform for dialogue on the future of universities, the changing needs of students, and the responsibilities of higher education institutions in rapidly evolving societies.

Associate Professor Kamali’s presentation focused on the role universities can play in advancing sustainability and responsibility through both curriculum and operations. Rather than treating sustainability as a separate institutional topic, his remarks emphasized the need to connect it with teaching, governance, decision-making, and the daily work of academic institutions.

The topic aligned with broader summit discussions on universities and the future of work in Asia Pacific. As higher education institutions prepare students for complex professional and civic environments, questions of sustainability, accountability, and responsible leadership have become increasingly important to curriculum design and institutional development.

Associate Professor Kamali’s contribution reflected AUS’s commitment to practice-oriented education and socially responsible academic engagement. His presentation connected classroom learning with wider institutional responsibilities, highlighting how universities can prepare students to think critically about the relationship between knowledge, governance, and public value.

The presentation also reinforced the importance of integrating responsibility into university operations. For academic institutions, sustainability is not only a subject of study; it is also a matter of how universities organize resources, support communities, make decisions, and model responsible practice for students and partners.

Through Associate Professor Kamali’s participation at the QS Higher Ed Summit: APAC 2023, AUS contributed to regional dialogue on the role of universities in shaping sustainable and responsible futures. His presentation supported AUS’s broader engagement with academic collaboration, institutional responsibility, and professional education.
