Senior Lecturer in Linguistics

British-born English teacher with global experience, teaching English as a foreign language internationally since 1997.

Originally from Great Britain, I have been teaching English as a foreign language since 1997, with professional experience in Slovakia, Turkey, Poland, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam. Each country has shaped not only my teaching approach but also my worldview, reinforcing my belief in the power of education to bridge cultural divides and foster mutual understanding.

I view language teaching as more than just instruction—it's about creating a supportive, engaging environment where students feel confident to express themselves and embrace learning as a lifelong process. My approach is student-centred, informed by curiosity, empathy, and a strong belief in the value of intercultural exchange.

Beyond the classroom, I have a deep interest in 19th- and early 20th-century literature, psychology, traditional music, and fitness. These passions often influence my teaching style, helping me connect with students through storytelling, critical thinking, and creativity. I believe that sharing who we are helps build authentic relationships, which are key to meaningful learning experiences.

Committed to student-centred learning, I focus on creating supportive and engaging classroom environments where learners develop confidence, communicative competence, and a genuine interest in language. My teaching is informed by intercultural awareness and a belief in the role of education in fostering mutual understanding across cultures. Alongside my professional work, I maintain strong interests in literature, psychology, traditional music, and fitness, which often enrich my teaching through storytelling, critical thinking, and creative engagement.
