Senior Lecturer in Linguistics

I am a native of Washington, D.C., who has worked as an educator and consultant in Asia and the United States for over two decades. Over the years, I have taught young professionals, secondary-, and college-level students in a handful of countries.

I have a Bachelor of Science in History, Philosophy & Religion and have studied the humanities ever since. After working in the field for a year, I decided to pursue a master’s in TESOL and joined the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education, and earned my MA TESOL in 2015.

My experience includes a great deal of curriculum development for humanities departments in international schools, where I assisted with program planning and implementation of the curriculum for English Language Arts and Literature and social sciences coursework. Since September of 2018 I have been working as a tutor/trainer with The TEFL Org to help students gain their TEFL certificate, among other training to best prepare them to teach abroad. The primary responsibility is to train our tutees in the latest developments in English language teaching methodologies and to deliver lesson as well as possible. My responsibilities are to guide teachers-in-training, give them pedagogical tools and resources for curriculum planning and delivering lessons, and assessing their teaching plans. Most of my students end up working in Spain, Japan, Korea, and China.

From May to December 2023 I held a lecturer and research position at Taipei Medical University in Taiwan as the Research Assistant in the Fulbright Specialist Program, which is part of the Bilingual Education Center team as part of a government initiative to promote the growth and enhancement of English as the Medium of Instruction (EMI) according to targets and expectations set by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. My duties were to deliver English courses for general-, academic- and special purposes (EGP, EAP, and ESP) to first and second year university students who need to gain writing proficiency and meet tertiary level writing standards and conventions. While doing so I collaborated with subject lecturers and instructors to improve their delivery of and approaches to EMI lessons. I also assisted in administrative assignments, held professional development workshops, and assisted in grant writing, editing, and revisions for proposals to the government and university.

Most recently, I have been an Instructor in the School of Linguistics at the American University of Science since August 2024, where my main concern is teaching the PCE TESOL methodology courses (150 hours and 10 units over 6 weeks, including a Capstone Project) where students may gain their Professional TESOL Certificate. I also deliver the courses TESOL Methodology and Strategy and Advanced Curriculum Design and Assessment. I also help teach the course Master's Research Project in T.E.S.O.L and Applied Linguistics. In this course the instructors assist students in finding a topic for their master’s thesis, narrow the focus on their research focus, help the students operationalize quantifiable and qualitative data, edit and revise their paper for final submission, and follow referencing guidelines. On top of teaching the above courses I assist in designing the curricula with members of the department.
