TESOL Methodology and Strategy

This course provides a graduate-level examination of TESOL methodology and strategy through historical, theoretical, practical, and reflective perspectives. Grounded in the understanding that effective English language teaching depends on context rather than on any single universal method, the course examines major language teaching approaches, the development of method and postmethod pedagogy, materials selection and adaptation, learner and teacher roles, classroom interaction, sociocultural conditions, and the relationship between theory and practice. Students critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of established and emerging TESOL approaches, engage in applied workshops and reflective inquiry, and develop principled strategies for making informed pedagogical decisions in diverse English language learning environments.
