Advanced Data Systems Engineering
DSCI 733001
TBD
This course provides a graduate-level foundation in advanced data systems engineering, focusing on the principles, architectures, and engineering trade-offs that govern modern database and data-intensive systems. It examines relational database theory, SQL, database design, storage structures, indexing, query processing, optimization, transaction management, concurrency control, recovery, distributed and parallel databases, replication, consistency, fault tolerance, big data platforms, NoSQL and NewSQL systems, polystore architectures, and batch and stream processing. Emphasizing both theoretical rigor and applied engineering judgment, the course prepares students to analyze, design, evaluate, and communicate data-system solutions that are scalable, reliable, maintainable, secure, and suitable for complex computational, enterprise, cloud-based, analytical, and intelligent application environments.
