DECLARATION OF FAITH
Nescire est initium sapientiae — To not know is the beginning of wisdom
Preamble
AUS—hereinafter referred to as "the University" or "AUS"—hereby solemnly enshrines this Declaration of Faith as the irrevocable doctrinal foundation of its existence, identity, and mission. Rooted in the evangelical Protestant tradition, this document binds the University to the eternal authority of Scripture and the unchanging tenets of historic Christian orthodoxy.
This Declaration articulates the unified convictions of the Board of Governors, executive leadership, faculty, and academic community. It stands as both theological constitution and public witness, guiding every dimension of academic instruction, research, institutional governance, and global service.
Article I — The Authority of Scripture
AUS affirms the Holy Bible—comprising the sixty-six canonical books of the Old and New Testaments—as the verbally inspired, inerrant, infallible, and all-sufficient Word of God. Scripture is the final and supreme authority in all matters of faith, conduct, knowledge, and policy. All institutional life—academic, ethical, administrative—must conform to the eternal truth of God's revealed Word.
Article II — The Doctrine of the Trinity
AUS confesses one eternal God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three distinct Persons of one divine essence, co-equal and co-eternal, uncreated and unchanging. This Trinitarian orthodoxy governs the University’s theological instruction, institutional policy, and community life.
Article III — The Sovereignty of the Father
AUS acknowledges God the Father Almighty as the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all that exists. His perfect will governs both creation and providence. Every lecture, research pursuit, and institutional act is conducted in reverence to His divine authority.
Article IV — The Lordship of Jesus Christ
AUS exalts the Lord Jesus Christ—fully God and fully man—as the eternal Son of God and sole Redeemer of humanity. His sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension, and future return are confessed as the center of history and the cornerstone of the University’s mission.
Article V — The Work of the Holy Spirit
AUS acknowledges the Holy Spirit as the divine Person who regenerates, indwells, sanctifies, and empowers believers. He is the revealer of truth, the divine teacher and comforter, who distributes spiritual gifts and illuminates both intellectual discovery and spiritual formation.
Article VI — Salvation by Grace Through Faith
AUS proclaims salvation as the sovereign gift of God’s grace—received by faith alone in Christ alone, not by works. Through Christ’s finished work, believers are justified, adopted, sanctified, and glorified. This truth animates the University’s purpose: to produce graduates redeemed by grace and equipped for Gospel-centered service.
Article VII — Blessed Hope and Final Judgment
AUS confesses the personal and visible return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and the eternal destinies of both the redeemed and the unrepentant. This eschatological vision shapes the University’s curriculum, long-range planning, and sense of eternal accountability.
Article VIII — Creation and the Reality of Spiritual Warfare
AUS affirms the biblical doctrine of creation: that all things were made ex nihilo by God’s Word, and that humanity bears His image. AUS integrates scientific inquiry with biblical cosmology, rejecting models that sever creation from its divine origin. The University also acknowledges spiritual warfare, affirming the reality of Satan and the imperative of spiritual vigilance, discernment, and doctrinal fidelity.
Article IX — Institutional Submission and Public Witness
This Declaration of Faith shall be upheld in perpetuity as the theological charter of the University. It is subject to periodic reaffirmation by the Board of Governors. The most recent review was conducted on August 3, 2025, and formally ratified on September 3, 2025.
It shall be permanently published in the University’s official documents and public platforms, including the AUS Wise Book and the institutional website, under the title AUS Faith Statement, as an unambiguous witness to the University’s spiritual and institutional allegiance to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
FINAL DOXOLOGY
To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ. Amen. (Romans 16:27)
GOVERNANCE, GUARDIANSHIP, AND PERPETUAL ALIGNMENT
The governance of AUS, entrusted to its Board of Governors, constitutes a sacred guardianship of the University’s mission, vision, and institutional integrity. This stewardship transcends administrative obligation; it is a solemn vocation of moral leadership, doctrinal fidelity, and eternal accountability.
Each section of this codified text—whether doctrinal, academic, ethical, or structural—is subject to continuous review and conscientious reaffirmation. This process ensures that the living identity of the University remains harmonized with its divine mandate and responsive to the evolving exigencies of global higher education. The Board conducts annual reviews of all foundational texts, policies, and institutional declarations, ensuring their alignment with the transcendent principles upon which the University was founded.
As of this publication, the schedule of reviews and ratifications is as follows:
First Review: August 3, 2021
First Publication: September 3, 2021
Second Review: August 3, 2022
Second Ratification: September 3, 2022
Third Review: August 3, 2023
Third Ratification: September 3, 2023
Fourth Review: August 3, 2024
Fourth Ratification: September 3, 2024
Fifth Review: August 3, 2025
Fifth Ratification: September 3, 2025
(and perpetually henceforth, on an annual basis)
This living governance process does not merely preserve institutional integrity; it embodies the University’s irrevocable vow to uphold the highest standards of transparency, moral clarity, doctrinal fidelity, and visionary continuity. It affirms that AUS is not merely an academic institution, but a consecrated covenant—binding wisdom to governance, mission to accountability, and leadership to eternal truth.
